about the artist
Ava Guse is a Toronto-based special effects artist and a graduate of Sheridan College's Advanced Special Effects, Prosthetics & Props program. They are a skilled prop and animatronic builder with a background in mechanical engineering, fabrication, painting and sculpting. With a passion for the horror genre and practical effects, Ava applies their skills to create animatronics, puppets and props for films, TV shows & commercials.
Prior to professionally pursuing special effects, Ava completed their Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2022. They gained a variety of technical skills, including 3D modelling, machining, coding (in python, C and C++), as well as project leadership. Working on countless teams throughout their degree, they built up their interpersonal skills and developed into a valuable team member. Most notably, their capstone team won 3rd place for their work creating a mechanism for handling bariatric bodies at the Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit.
